The Karnataka state government issued this “nutrition advisory” to promote healthier dietary habits in the workplace.

  • The directive, released by the Department of Health and Family Welfare Services, mandates a shift away from processed and high-calorie items often served at government functions.

Key Restrictions and Prohibitions

  • Beverages: Milk-based tea and coffee, carbonated drinks, high-sugar fruit juices, and alcohol-based beverages.
  • Snacks: Deep-fried and industrially processed snacks, high-fat, or heavily spiced dishes.
  • Cooking Methods: Microwave-heated or microwave-cooked foods.
  • Packaging: Drinking water served in plastic bottles; instead, water must be boiled and served in glass bottles or steel flasks.

Recommended Healthy Alternatives

The advisory prescribes specific nutritious replacements to foster physical and mental well-being:

  • Millet-based Foods: At least one millet-based item for snacks and two for full meals.
  • Whole Grains: Brown rice instead of white rice.
  • Protein & Fiber: Fresh cut fruits, vegetable salads, sprouts, and roasted (unsalted) nuts and seeds like pumpkin, flax, and sunflower.
  • Healthier Beverages: Green tea and low-fat buttermilk.
  • Meat Options: If non-vegetarian food is served, it should be restricted to well-cooked lean or white meat.

  • Virtual RC & DL: Download and store legally valid digital copies of your Registration Certificate (RC) and Driving License (DL).
  • Vehicle Information: Search for vehicle details using a registration number, including owner name, registration date, fuel type, and insurance/fitness validity.
  • Challan Services: Check for pending traffic challans and pay them directly through the app.
  • E-KYC Services: Access contactless services by updating your mobile number or linking Aadhaar for verification without visiting an RTO.
